Frequently Asked Questions & Why we are different.

1. Why is your cost much lower than the same type of services available in our area?
Simple economics, we can afford to be lower in cost for a many reasons. Here are just a few.
a: We live on site at our facility. We are not paying a lease or rent on another location.
b: We provide only the basics for our services. Clients are then free to choose only those options they feel they can afford. Most folks are not sure about what they want during this time of grief, and when you have recently lost a beloved pet, making the whole process as simple and decision free as possible is more important.
There is time enough later on to decide how to best memorialize a pet after they are gone.
c. If we were in this to make money we would have certainly gone another direction. Our sole purpose is to provide a basic service and to insure that your time of need is as stress free as possible.
d. Our business is to be there when we are needed, not to nickel and dime for every additional service you may be in need of. We charge a reasonable fee to cover our time and costs for pickups only, we don't feel we need to take any advantage in your time of grief and emotional stress.

2. How do I know that I am getting my pet back?
In reality you don't, regardless of who is performing the services for your pet. As with any business it's a matter of trust and faith and the integrity of those you choose for this service. Many shelters and some private facilities across the country do a type of cremation that they deem private when in fact it is not. Several animals are placed in various locations in the cremation chamber, and noted down. Some places use a metal tag with an ID number which is placed with each animal to track whom it belongs to. During retrieval the remains and associated tag are removed as carefully as possible and separated out for final processing. Both systems are error prone and depend upon competent workers and record keeping to insure that mistakes are not made. Economics again plays a roll here as this costs more to accomplish. These costs of course gets passed onto the client.

At Horizon Pet Services you have our assurance and personal guarantee that the pet brought to us is the same pet that you take back home with you. That they will be handled with dignity, respect and integrity. To that end our facilities are open to all our clients and we will gladly allow you to participate in as much of the process as you feel comfortable with and to give you "Peace of Mind". If this is something you are not up to, you are welcome to have a friend or acquaintance to help out and be there for you.

Our state of the art cremation equipment allows us to quickly do our job with out incurring time lost in waiting for systems to cool down prior to retrieval. Our methods insure that we can accomplish our job with efficiency and respect while at the same time insuring that your pet is yours and yours alone. Our process is exactly what occurs with human cremations. This gives your pet the dignity and privacy that they deserve.

This is so important to us that we feel you need to be aware of what was normal in the pet cremation industry and how it is now changing. They way things used to be done is being turned around through the dedication of folks like ourselves. We have commitment and drive to insure that all pets get the dignity and respect they so richly deserve.    http://www.petowneralert.org/index.html

3. My pet is getting really old and I asked my veterinarian about options. He indicated that he uses the Human Society for all his cremations and no other options were available through him. Is this right?
No it is not. Your are the ultimate decision maker on how your pets after care is done and by whom. There are several options in the Central Oregon area for the aftercare of your pet. Whom you choose is up to you and it is important that you discuss this with your veterinarian. A form is available on our home page to insure that your choice is respected and that all parties involved in your pets aftercare are aware of your wishes. When that time comes all your vet needs to do is call us and we take care of the rest at no extra charge.

4. Do I have to pick up my pet right away, I may not be ready?
No you do not. We will hold your pet for as long as it takes for you to be ready for them to come home. We have held pets for as long as 8 months before their owners were ready to have them back. We do not charge for this service, nor is your pet left alone, we keep them next to our pets whom have also passed on.

5. What are my options for my pets ashs after they come home?
Review our page on Cremation or check out the many options available both online and locally.
